Lasers in Small Animal Endoscopic Surgery - Webinar

This webinar will introduce the small animal endoscopist to the benefits of incorporating lasers into MIS.  An overview of laser physics, laser-tissue interactions and equipment choices will be provided. The particular indications for different laser wavelengths will be discussed, as well as clinical indications and techniques including lasers in endourology, BOAS surgery/upper respiratory, otoendoscopy, gastrointestinal endoscopy and laparoscopic adhesiolysis.  A review of laser safety and management of complications will round out this discussion.

Instructor:
David Sobel, DVM, MRCVS

Dr. Sobel began his veterinary training at the University of Glasgow in Scotland before returning to the US to receive his DVM from Tufts Veterinary School in 1992.  He was on the staff of the Dover Veterinary Hospital during which time he received advanced training in human endoscopic surgery at the New England Medical Center in Boston.  He later served on the staff of the Hanover Veterinary Clinic before starting his mobile practice, Metropolitan Veterinary Consultants, in 2000.

Dr. Sobel was one of the first practitioners to begin incorporating the use of diode lasers into minimally invasive surgery for dogs and cats, taking what had previously been purely diagnostic procedures into the realm of interventional surgical endoscopy. He is the co-editor and author of the BSAVA Manual of Small Animal Endoscopy and Endosurgery  and has also contributed to Ettinger et. al. Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine and Winkler’s Laser Surgery in Veterinary Medicine.
