Introduction to Video Otoscopy - March 28, 2021

This course is intended to be made available for veterinarians and technicians attending the CVMBS Annual Conference on March 27-28, 2021
Course Description:
This video otoscopy course allows participants to practice safe ear flushing techniques as well as myringotomy, middle ear culture, and foreign body removal. First, an interactive lecture will describe equipment and provide tips on safe otoscopic examination. Participants will then move into the laboratory and use Karl Storz video otoscopes performing procedures on cadaver specimens. Standard otoscopes will also be available for practice and instruction. At the conclusion of the two-hour interactive laboratory, the practitioner will be able to successfully manage common ear disorders.

Jennifer Schissler DVM, DACVD

Jennifer Schissler, DVM, MS, DACVD is a Colorado native and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Colorado State University’s professional veterinary medical program in 2005. After completing a 1-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, she completed a combined master’s degree and dermatology residency at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Her master’s thesis was entitled, “Species Identification by Polymerase Chain Reaction of Staphylooccal Isolates from the Skin and Ears of Dogs and Evaluation of Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute Interpretive Criteria for Canine Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius.” She became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2009.
