Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive approach to abdomen for organ biopsy, diagnostic techniques, and surgical procedures. The first day of the course includes lectures on instrumentation, basic techniques and procedures to be performed in the laboratory. Endoscopic skills begin with a session using endoscopic trainers, followed by a hands-on session using cadavers to develop basic laparoscopic skills. The second day participants will perform laparoscopy on cadavers. Participants will learn basic approaches and tissue manipulation. Laparoscopic techniques include tissue biopsy (liver, pancreas, and kidney), cholecystocentesis and basic laparoscopic-assisted techniques including, intestinal biopsy, gastropexy, and ovariectomy. This course is intended for those having minimal or no experience with laparoscopy. The laboratory is limited in size to three people per animal. Demonstrations and lectures will be recorded and participants will be able to access these recordings after the course. After this course participants may also register for the laparoscopic ovariectomy and/or advanced surgical laparoscopy course.

Eric Monnet, DVM, PhD
Dr. Monnet graduated from veterinary school in Maisons Alfort, France in 1985. He worked for four years in a Paris private practice performing small animal medicine and surgery. In 1994, Monnet completed a small animal surgery residency at Colorado State University and concurrently finished a Master of Sciences degree. In 1997, Monnet received his PhD in Clinical Sciences studying cardiac efficiency in dogs. In 2003, he became a fellow of the American Heart Association. Monnet is currently a professor in small animal soft tissue surgery at Colorado State University and has authored more than 100 articles and 25 chapters in various surgical textbooks. Monnet was the founding president in 2001-2003 of the Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery and in 2002-2004 of the Veterinary Endoscopy Society. He is the editor of the textbook: “Disease Mechanisms in Small Animal Surgery” (3rd edition). He is currently the editor of the textbook “Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery” (1st edition).
David C. Twedt, DVM, DACVIM
Dr. David C. Twedt is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University and Associate Director of Continuing Education in the Translational Medicine Institute. Twedt is past President of the ACVIM and Comparative Gastroenterology Society. Publication and research interests include liver disease, gastrointestinal disease and endoscopy. He has also been the recipient of a number of teaching and research awards including the Veterinary Endoscopy Society Pioneer in Endoscopy Award. Twedt is the editor of several textbooks including Current Veterinary Therapy.

If a course is canceled for any reason, we are not responsible for any charges related to travel.
Refunds are available for cancellations made 35 days prior to the beginning of the course. Cancellations less than 35 days before a course are nonrefundable but may be partially transferrable to a future course.
